Retirement, education, protection — in your words.
Your retirement is 22 years away. Your daughter's college admission is 4 years away. These are not the same goal. They cannot be served by the same product, the same risk level, or the same asset allocation.
Goal-based advising starts here — with that distinction made explicit, before any product enters the conversation.
At WealthOne, the first conversation has nothing to do with markets or funds. It has everything to do with what you are trying to achieve, when you need the money, and what happens if you fall short. Retirement. Your child's education. Life cover for your family. These are stated in your words, mapped to timelines, and translated into rupee targets before a single recommendation is made.
Take a concrete example. A 38-year-old planning to retire at 60 needs a corpus to sustain roughly ₹1.2 lakh per month in today's terms for 25 years post-retirement. Accounting for inflation, that translates to a target corpus of approximately ₹7–8 crore at retirement. (This figure is illustrative, based on an assumed 6% inflation rate and an assumed 7% post-retirement portfolio return, and is not a projection or promise.)
The same person's daughter starts college in 4 years. A quality undergraduate programme costs ₹40–60 lakh today; at an assumed 8% education inflation, that is ₹54–82 lakh by the time admission happens. (Illustrative assumption only — not a projection or promise.)
Two goals. Two completely different timelines. Two completely different asset allocations.
Same client, two goals — allocation must follow the timeline, not the product shelf.
| Goal | Horizon | Allocation bias |
|---|---|---|
| Retirement | 22 years | Significant equity possible |
| Daughter education | 4 years | Debt & liquid |
The 22-year retirement horizon can carry significant equity exposure — equity has historically rewarded long holding periods, and the allocation can shift gradually toward debt as retirement approaches. The 4-year education goal cannot absorb the same equity risk. A sharp market correction two years from now cannot be waited out when the college fee is due in 36 months. This goal sits predominantly in debt and liquid instruments from day one.
ASSET ALLOCATION is the primary driver of outcome differences between a goal-mapped plan and a product-push approach. Not just charges. Not just fund selection. The structural mismatch between a client's actual goal timeline and the product placed in their portfolio is where most financial plans quietly fail.
None of these structures ties revenue to whether your ₹7 crore retirement corpus is actually on track in year 12.
A SEBI-registered investment adviser earns a fee paid directly by you. Revenue is not linked to which product you hold, which fund house you invest with, or how often you transact. The advice is calibrated to your goals — because that is the only thing the fee structure rewards.
The sequence at WealthOne is fixed: goals first, plan second, asset allocation third, products last. Products are chosen to serve the plan. The plan exists to serve your goals.
